Moderate

This is THE Koh Phi Phi postcard: the sand hourglass between the twin bays of Tonsai and Loh Dalum, seen from above. The climb from the village is short but honest — concrete stairs, then jungle path — over three tiers: Viewpoint 1, Viewpoint 2 (the main platform, 186 m) and Viewpoint 3, wilder and often empty. Allow 30 to 45 minutes at an easy pace.

Stage by stage

  1. 1

    Tonsai Village

Start at the pier and head east through the shopping lanes. Follow the yellow "Viewpoint" signs — you can't go wrong, it goes up.

  2. 2

    The stairs

The toughest stretch: a run of steep concrete stairs under the trees. Take your own pace — there are landings to catch your breath and the first views already open up.

  3. 3

    Viewpoint 1

First platform with a small shop. The view opens over Loh Dalum — many stop here, but the best is above.

  4. 4

    Viewpoint 2 — the postcard

5 more minutes on a paved path: this is where THE twin-bay photo is taken (entry 30-50 THB, garden and café). At sunrise the light comes from exactly the right direction.

  5. 5

    Viewpoint 3

A dirt path continues north through the jungle to a quieter rocky platform. It's also where the descent to Rantee starts if you want to link both hikes.

🎒 What to bring

  • 30-50 THB in cash for the Viewpoint 2 entry
  • Sunrise: leave 45 min before first light, a headtorch helps on the stairs
  • At least 1 L of water even for this short climb
  • The Viewpoint 2 café opens early — a well-earned reward

⚠️ Safety

  • !Steep stairs, slippery after rain: closed shoes
  • !Monkeys around the platforms: don't feed them, hold onto your things
  • !Head down before dark — the trail is unlit
