Koh Phi Phi, an island without an airport or bridge
Koh Phi Phi can only be reached by boat. There is no airport on the island, nor a bridge from the mainland. Two main gateways: Phuket and Krabi, each connected to Koh Phi Phi by ferry and speedboat. The nearest airport is Krabi (KBV); Phuket (HKT) is a little further away but has more international flights.

From Phuket or Krabi: ferry or speedboat?
From Phuket (Rassada pontoon) as from Krabi (Klong Jilad pontoon), you have the choice:
- Ferry (around 2 hours) — large, stable boat, cheaper (550-800 THB), several departures per day. The best choice with luggage or by rough seas (October-April, Andaman swell).
- Speedboat (around 50-75 min) — faster, more expensive (850-1,400 THB), shakelier. Ideal if you are in a hurry and the sea is calm.
Krabi is generally a little less busy than Phuket initially, and its airport (KBV) is closest to the pontoon.

From Bangkok
No direct connection Bangkok to Koh Phi Phi: you must transit through Phuket or Krabi.
- Fastest: flight from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) to Krabi or Phuket (1h25), then shuttle to the pontoon and boat. Allow 5.5 to 8 hours door to door.
- The most economical: night bus Bangkok to Krabi (around 12 hours) then ferry. Long but cheap.
DMK is the low-cost hub (AirAsia, Nok, Thai Lion) and often the cheapest combo.

The last boat, and how not to miss it
The last departure to Koh Phi Phi is around 3:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. depending on the port and the season. If you are arriving from a flight the same day:
- Aim for a flight that lands before noon in Krabi or Phuket.
- Keep 3 to 4 hours of margin between landing and the last boat (shuttle + check-in at the pontoon).
- In case of late arrival, it is better to sleep one night in Krabi or Phuket and board the next morning.
