The essentials: Maya Bay at sunrise, tour of the islands in a longtail or speedboat (Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, Bamboo Island), snorkeling on the reefs, PADI diving, the climb to Phi Phi Viewpoint, and a sunset followed by bioluminescent plankton. Allow 2 to 3 days to do everything without running. The secret is to leave early — before the day trips to Phuket and Krabi.

Koh Phi Phi fits into one image: limestone cliffs gushing from turquoise water, ribbon longtails moored on powdery sand, and this Andaman light that nothing can replace. But there's a world of difference between what the brochures sell and what's really worth your time. Here's the honest list, written by our team who live on the island and guide these tours themselves — not a compilation of copied articles.

The golden rule, above all else: leave early. Almost all of the magic of Phi Phi happens between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., before the day-trip fleets arrive from Phuket and Krabi.

1. See Maya Bay at sunrise

The beach made famous by La Plage deserves its reputation — as long as you get there before the crowds. Reopened in 2022 under strict quotas, Maya Bay is sublime at 7 a.m. and saturated at noon. Our small group sunrise tour is built around this niche. All the practical details (fees, rules, season) are in our complete Maya Bay guide.

2. Take a grand tour of the islands (island hopping)

This is the signature experience. In a traditional longtail or speedboat, you can visit Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Loh Samah, Viking Cave and Monkey Beach in one morning. The complete speedboat tour covers it all; the half-day longtail is more intimate and slower, in the old-fashioned way.

3. Swim in Pileh Lagoon

A natural pool of emerald water enclosed in the cliffs of Phi Phi Leh. This is often a travelers' favorite moment: we jump from the boat into warm, transparent water, sheltered from the wind. The best time is just after Maya Bay, early in the morning.

4. Snorkeling on the reefs

The reefs around Phi Phi teem with clownfish, parrotfish and sometimes turtles. Monkey Beach, Nui Bay and the surrounding area of Bamboo Island offer shallow, clear waters, ideal for beginners. Masks and vests are provided on our tours.

5. Dive — even for the first time

Phi Phi is one of the best beginner spots in Southeast Asia: water at 28-30°C, leopard sharks, visibility up to 30 m. Whether you just want to try or take your PADI Open Water, everything is possible here. See our baptism of diving and the Koh Phi Phi diving guide.

6. Climb Phi Phi Viewpoint

Twenty minutes of uphill walking from Tonsai, and one of Thailand's most famous panoramas opens up: the twin hourglass bays of Phi Phi Don, between the cliffs. Go there at daybreak or late afternoon for light and freshness.

7. Sunset, then bioluminescent plankton

At the end of the day, the Andaman Sea bursts into flames. Some of our tricks extend to bioluminescent plankton: in the black water, each movement triggers blue sparks. It's unreal — and rarely in brochures.

8. Bamboo Island

A small island of white sand and shallow turquoise water, in the north of the archipelago. Less busy, perfect for a quiet swimming break or a family picnic. Often included in day tours.

9. Live in the evening in Tonsai

The village of Tonsai comes alive at nightfall: bars with their feet in the sand, fire shows on Loh Dalum, street food and fresh juices. With no cars on the island, everything is done on foot — the atmosphere is relaxed, never stuffy.

10. Privatize a boat for your own pace

If you are traveling with family or friends, a privatized longtail or speedboat changes everything: you set the departure time, the order of the spots, and you leave before everyone else. This is our number one recommendation for avoiding crowds.

11. Go there for the day from Phuket or Krabi

You don't sleep on the island? Day trips depart from Phuket, Krabi and Ao Nang. You'll see the essentials, but during peak hours — see our options from other cities and our transfers.

12. Choose the right time

The high season (November-April) offers calm seas and clear water; February-April are the most beautiful months. To organize everything, read how many days to spend on Koh Phi Phi and our French-speaking guide to the island.

In summary: two or three days, an early departure, and you will have seen the best of Phi Phi far from the crowds. We live here, we manage each tour ourselves, and we confirm on WhatsApp — without an intermediary. Tell us your dates, we'll plan the day with you.

Everything you want to know

Two nights minimum, three ideally. One day for the grand tour of the islands (Maya Bay, Pileh, Bamboo), one for diving or a quiet beach, and one morning for the viewpoint and relaxing. In a single day from Phuket or Krabi you will only see the essentials, in the crowds.
