The most rewarding hike on the Krabi mainland. From the ranger station near Tab Kaek Beach, 3.6 km of well-marked national park trail climb through dense rainforest to the crest of Khao Ngon Nak, 500 m above the Andaman Sea. At the top: a panorama over the entire karst coastline — and the famous overhanging rock ledge, the most photographed spot in Krabi. Count 1h40 to 2h30 up at a relaxed pace; the way back follows the same trail.

Stage by stage

Ranger station
The trail starts at the Hat Noppharat Thara national park ranger post, 10 minutes north of Tab Kaek Beach. Sign the visitor log — rangers track who is on the mountain.

Rainforest climb
The first two kilometres wind up through tall dipterocarp forest, alive with birds and the occasional dusky langur. Shaded, humid, steadily uphill.

The steep half
Past the halfway mark the trail steepens seriously: sustained stairs of roots and rock, with fixed ropes on the sharpest pitches. Take it slow — this is where the 500 m of climbing happen.

Summit & the ledge
A viewpoint platform opens first, then the crest itself: a bare rock spur hanging over the void, facing the whole karst bay. Sunrise here is one of the great sights of southern Thailand.

- ✓Real shoes, not flip-flops: the upper half is steep roots and rock
- ✓The trailhead is 25 min by car from Ao Nang — grab-taxi or scooter
