Last boat Koh Phi Phi → Ao Nang: real schedules and what to do after 5pm

This page is currently in French. A translated version is on the way — our concierge is happy to answer in your language.

Read

There is no scheduled boat after around 5pm. The last Tonsai → Ao Nang departure is a speedboat near 17:00 (with hotel transfer), preceded by departures around 16:15, 16:00 and 15:30. After that, your only option is a chartered private speedboat (expensive, weather-permitting) — otherwise you sleep on the island and leave the next morning. Never schedule an evening meeting in Ao Nang on the day you leave Phi Phi.

The short answer

No scheduled boat links Koh Phi Phi to Ao Nang after around 5pm. The last departure from Tonsai pier is a speedboat near 17:00 (hotel transfer included with some companies), preceded by departures around 16:15, 16:00 and 15:30. After that slot, there's nothing: Phi Phi is an island with no bridge and no road, and passenger services stop in the late afternoon.

If you miss the last boat, only two ways out:

  1. Sleep on the island and leave next morning — by far the simplest.
  2. Charter a private speedboat, if sea and hour allow — costly, and impossible at night in rough seas.

Why nothing runs in the evening

It's not demand — it's maritime safety: the Phi Phi ↔ mainland routes have no night navigation aids, and the Andaman Sea can build fast late in the day. No serious operator schedules passenger crossings after dark. This is true year-round, high season included.

How to plan your departure day

  • Aim for a boat before 3pm if you have an evening appointment, transfer or connection in Ao Nang/Krabi.
  • Never book a dinner, late check-in or airport transfer for the same evening you leave Phi Phi. Keep a buffer.
  • Staying in the north (Laem Tong)? Say so: some companies board you directly, otherwise plan a longtail to Tonsai (see longtail or speedboat).
  • Flight the next day? See our Phi Phi → Phuket airport timing guide.
