Krabi, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta: in what order, and how many nights each?

The most logical order: Krabi first (you land there — Ao Nang, Railay, 4 Islands), Koh Phi Phi in the middle (the wow, 2 nights is enough), Koh Lanta last (calm, then a road transfer to Krabi airport without depending on a boat on flight day). For a 10-night trip: 4 Krabi + 2 Phi Phi + 4 Lanta is an excellent split. Ending on Koh Lanta rather than Phi Phi secures your return flight, because Lanta is road-connected to the airport.

The short answer

The order that minimises transfers and secures your return flight:

  1. Krabi first — you land here (KBV airport). A stable base for Ao Nang, Railay, the 4 Islands Tour, the mangroves. Acclimatise here.
  2. Koh Phi Phi in the middle — the region's wow: postcard beaches, Maya Bay, snorkeling. 2 nights is enough for most.
  3. Koh Lanta last — the island where you slow down: long beaches, laid-back vibe. And crucially: road-connected to Krabi airport (~2h), so your departure doesn't depend on a boat crossing.

Why not end on Phi Phi? Because Phi Phi is boat-access only, and a rough-sea day (especially July-September) can suspend crossings. Ending on a road-connected island means never gambling your flight on the swell.

The tip that makes the difference

  • Don't date your crossing on flight day. Always keep a buffer (see Phi Phi → Phuket airport timing — same logic on the Krabi side).
  • Book Phi Phi early: it's the priciest link for accommodation, and it fills fast in high season. Our where to stay on Koh Phi Phi guide helps you pick the right zone.
  • One night on Phi Phi = a Maya Bay sunrise nearly alone. It's the only way to beat the 11am crowd.

Everything you want to know

Yes, great for 10 nights. Do it in geographic order: Krabi (4) → Phi Phi (2) → Koh Lanta (4), then Lanta → Krabi airport by road. You avoid hauling luggage on a crossing on flight day, and you finish on the calmest island.
