Read

Koh Lanta is the island where you slow down: long quiet beaches, a laid-back vibe, a charming old town, ideal for families and couples escaping the crowds. It's connected to Koh Phi Phi by speedboat (~1h, Saladan pier) and to Krabi airport by road (~2h with car ferries). It fits perfectly at the end of an itinerary: Krabi → Phi Phi → Koh Lanta, then a road transfer to the airport without depending on a boat on flight day.

The short answer

Koh Lanta is the anti-Phi Phi — in the best way. Where Phi Phi impresses with scenery and crowds, Lanta wins on calm: long beaches strung together, a laid-back vibe, a charming old town, famous sunsets. It's the island of families and couples who want to breathe.

And logistically it has an edge: road-connected to Krabi airport (~2h), so it's perfect at the end of an itinerary — your flight doesn't hinge on a crossing.

Who it's for (and not for)

  • Ideal for: families, couples, remote workers, lovers of quiet beaches and scootering.
  • Less suited if: you want postcard wow (Phi Phi wins), intense nightlife, or breathtaking snorkeling sites you can swim to.

When to go

November to April = dry season, everything open, calm sea. Careful: unlike Phi Phi, Koh Lanta is very seasonal — from May to October, and especially July to September, many hotels and restaurants close. Always check openings before booking off-season.

How many nights

Lanta deserves 3-4 nights minimum to reveal its slow charm. On 10 nights in the region: Krabi → Phi Phi → 4 nights on Lanta at the end is an ideal balance (see how many days). Under 6 nights, focus on Krabi + Phi Phi.

Fitting it into your trip

The smart move: finish on Lanta. You chain the spectacle (Phi Phi) then the rest (Lanta), and head to Krabi airport by road, without gambling your flight on a crossing. Tell us your length and wishes, and our team will lock the itinerary and transfers.

Everything you want to know

By speedboat, Tonsai pier (Phi Phi) to Saladan (Koh Lanta), about 1h. Departures mostly morning and early afternoon (around 09:30 to 15:30 depending on season). In low season some links thin out — confirm the day before.
