Two options: regular ferry (400-600 THB, 2 hours, 3 departures/day from Rassada Pier) or express speedboat (1200-1500 THB, 50 min, more tiring). The ferry is recommended for most travelers: comfortable, air-conditioned, luggage accepted. Main departures 8:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to Tonsai Pier.

Immediate response

You have 3 options, ranked from most recommended to least:

  1. Classic ferry — 400-600 THB, 2 hours, 3 departures/day. ✅ Recommended.
  2. Speedboat express — 1200-1500 THB, 50 mins. 💨 Fast but bumpy.
  3. Transfer + ferry combo — 900-1100 THB, convenient but more expensive.

The classic ferry (our choice)

Departures from Rassada Pier (northeast of Phuket, 30 minutes from the center):

CompanyDeparture PhuketArrival Phi PhiPrice
Tigerline / PhiPhiCruiser8:30 a.m.10:30 a.m.450 THB
Royal Jet Cruiser1:30 p.m.3:30 p.m.500 THB
Chaokoh2:30 p.m.4:30 p.m.450 THB

Included:

  • Luggage 1 suitcase + 1 cabin bag
  • Air conditioning, exterior deck
  • WC on board
  • Snacks and drinks purchased on board (not included)

Arrival: Tonsai Pier (Phi Phi Don). Longtails are waiting for transfer to distant hotels (Laem Tong, Loh Bagao, Long Beach).

The speedboat express

For whom: you are in a hurry, you have little baggage, you do not fear the wave.

For whom NOT: seasickness, young children, large suitcases, desire for comfort.

  • Price: 1200-1500 THB depending on season
  • Duration: 50 min (compared to 2 hours by ferry)
  • Departure: Rassada Pier or Chalong Pier
  • Baggage: 10 kg max, the rest in the hold (pays extra)
  • Comfort: 40-60 passengers crowded together, engine noise, shocks if rough seas

We only recommend it if your schedule is really tight (eg: you arrive at 1 p.m. in Phuket, you want to be in Phi Phi before dark).

The airport → ferry combo

Agencies offer an all-in-one ticket:

  • Shared taxi airport → Rassada Pier
  • Ferry Rassada → Phi Phi
  • Longtail Tonsai Pier → your hotel (sometimes included)

Price: 900-1200 THB all inclusive.

Advantage: you don't ask yourself any questions, someone is waiting for you at every step.

Disadvantage: 300-400 THB more expensive than if you do it yourself.

How to avoid scams

  1. Don't take a ferry that sells for 2000+ THB on the airport tarmac — it's 3x the price.
  2. Avoid the tuktuks that tell you "your ferry is full" so you can go elsewhere.
  3. Check actual arrival time — some “8:30am” ferries actually depart at 9:15am (waiting for other passengers).
  4. Pay in THB cash or via 12Go.asia (reliable platform, online, honest rates).

If your flight lands late

  • Landing before 11 a.m. → ferry 1:30 p.m. widely playable
  • Landing 12 p.m.-3 p.m. → speedboat express at 2 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. depending on the company
  • Landing after 3 p.m. → sleep 1 night in Phuket, ferry the next morning. We recommend Patong (lively) or Kata (quiet) for the night.

Return Phi Phi → Phuket

Same times in the other direction. Ferry 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. the most used. Arrive 30 minutes before departure at Tonsai Pier (check-in queue).

Need a ferry reservation for you? We take care of it — we'll take the tickets for you, we'll reimburse you on WhatsApp.

Everything you want to know

Allows 4 hours total: 1 hour airport taxi → Rassada Pier, 1 hour waiting/check-in, 2 hours ferry. Land before 11 a.m. for the 1:30 p.m. ferry, or sleep 1 night in Phuket.
