You type in 'phi phi boat party' and you imagine a floating club. The reality is more nuanced, and frankly more beautiful. Here, the word 'boat party' covers three very different experiences: festive sunset cruise, night plankton tour, or private charter just for your group.

We, our team on the island, experience them all year round. So we give you the real deal: who likes what, what's included, security, and how to do everything your way.

What is a boat party in Phi Phi, really?
On the island, this word covers several very different realities. There are the big sunset cruises, which combine loud music, a bucket of alcohol and swimming at sunset. There are the plankton towers, softer, focused on the magic of water at night. And there is the real party on land, on Loh Dalum beach, which is nothing like a boat. Our advice as islanders: first choose the atmosphere you want, not just the word 'party'.

The sunset booze cruise: for whom, what atmosphere
It's the most festive format on the water. Loud music, international group, one or two snorkeling stops in the late afternoon, then the sunset over the limestone cliffs. This works well if you are traveling solo or in a small group and want to meet people. If you're looking for peace and quiet, or if you're going as a family with young children, this is clearly not the right choice.

The night plankton tour: magical and gentler
There, we completely change register. At the end of the day, the boat sails along the coves, you swim, you sometimes have dinner on board. Then, when night falls, bioluminescent plankton lights up in the water whenever you move. This is one of our favorite times of the entire year on Phi Phi. Much calmer than a booze cruise, this tour is perfect for a couple or a family.

The pirate ship: the island’s festive classic
The pirate ship is Phi Phi's most iconic party option. Large wooden sailboat, relaxed atmosphere, swimming and snorkeling stops, often a little alcohol on board. It's slower than a speedboat, but the whole point is in this slowness. A good compromise between walking and partying, it appeals to groups of friends and solo travelers alike.

What's included (and what's not)
It depends a lot on the tour, so read the sheet carefully before booking. Usually you have transportation, snorkeling equipment, water and fruit. Alcohol varies: sometimes included, sometimes extra on board. And be careful: if the route goes through Maya Bay, the park entrance fee (400 THB per adult, 200 THB per child aged 3 to 14) must be paid on site, generally not included. Also note that Maya Bay closes every year from August 1 to September 30.

Safety: what we tell you frankly
We live here all year round, so we're talking to you the truth. Alcohol, sea and sun don't mix well if you force the bucket. Choose a TAT licensed operator, with real life jackets on board and a serious crew. We have been on the island since 2019, TAT licensees, with a Google rating of 4.93/5: these are exactly the benchmarks to check, everywhere, before boarding.

Your own way: long-tail or private speedboat
Don't you like big, crowded boats? Privatize is often our best advice. With a long tail just for your group, you choose the stops, the schedule, the rhythm and even the music. With a private speedboat, you go further and faster, to Bamboo Island, Bida or Maya Bay early in the morning. This is our recommendation for couples, families and small groups who want freedom.

When to go to avoid the crowds
The secret is to leave early, or aim for the end of the day. Early departures avoid the afternoon swarms: the water is clearer and the coves are almost empty. For the festive atmosphere, the sunset time remains unbeatable, when the light gilds the karsts. Peak season is November to April, with the clearest water from February to April.

Sunset cruise or plankton tour: how we help you choose
Summarize your desire in one word, we'll help you decide. Want to party and meet people? Sunset cruise or pirate ship. Want calm and magic? Plankton tower. Want to control everything? Private, by longtail or speedboat. Look at our excursions, then write us your profile, your date and the number of people: we will honestly tell you what suits you.
