Option 1: Flight Bangkok → Krabi + ferry (recommended)

Step 1 — The flight

  • Airlines: Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai VietJet, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air
  • Departure airports: DMK (Don Mueang) for low-cost (AirAsia, Nok, Lion), BKK (Suvarnabhumi) for premium
  • Duration: 1h20 flight
  • Fare: 1,200-3,200 THB depending on booking and season
  • Frequency: 6-8 flights/day
  • Booking: Skyscanner, 12Go.asia, or directly on airline sites. Book 1-2 months ahead for best fares.

Step 2 — Krabi Airport → Klong Jilad Pier

  • Taxi: 600-700 THB, 30 min, negotiated at exit or via Grab
  • Shared minibus: 150-200 THB, 45 min (multiple stops)
  • Pre-booked transfer: 800-1,200 THB, 30 min, more reassuring in high season

Step 3 — Ferry Klong Jilad → Tonsai Pier

  • Companies: Tigerline, PhiPhiCruiser, Chaokoh, Ao Nang Princess
  • Duration: 1h30
  • Fare: 400-500 THB
  • Schedule: 9:30 and 14:30 (sometimes additional 10:30 in high season)
  • Luggage: 1 suitcase + 1 cabin bag included
  • Buying: at the pier on the day, or via 12Go.asia/Bookaway to pre-book

Stress-free schedule

Bangkok flight 7am → Krabi 8:25am. Taxi 8:45 → Klong Jilad 9:15. Ferry check-in 9:20 → departure 9:30 → Tonsai 11:00. You are at your hotel by 11:30, free for the afternoon.

Option 2: Flight Bangkok → Phuket + ferry

When to choose it?

  • You find a Bangkok→Phuket flight clearly cheaper than to Krabi
  • You want to spend 1 night in Phuket before Phi Phi (Patong beach, food, rest)
  • You leave through Phuket at the end (international flight)

Step 1 — Flight

  • Airlines: all domestic operators. 30+ flights/day.
  • Duration: 1h25
  • Fare: 1,200-3,500 THB

Step 2 — Phuket Airport → Rassada Pier

  • Taxi/Grab: 800-1,200 THB, 1h (far)
  • Shared minibus: 250-350 THB, 1h30
  • Private car: 1,200-1,800 THB, 1h

Step 3 — Ferry Rassada → Tonsai

  • Duration: 2h (longer than from Krabi)
  • Fare: 450-650 THB
  • Schedule: 8:30, 13:30, 14:30

Phuket total

6-7h door to door. Longer and more tiring than via Krabi because the airport is far from the pier.

Option 3: Flight + Express Speedboat

For travelers in a hurry or with tight schedules.

  • Phuket or KrabiExpress speedboat (50 min Phuket, 35 min Krabi)
  • Fare: 1,200-1,800 THB for the speedboat
  • Comfort: lower (vibrations, wave). Not ideal for seasickness
  • Luggage: 10 kg max, the rest pays extra
  • Total Bangkok→Phi Phi: 4-5h, 4,500-7,000 THB
Arrival: Tonsai Pier on Koh Phi Phi
Arrival: Tonsai Pier on Koh Phi Phi

Option 4: Night train + bus + ferry

The slow travel option par excellence. Savings + experience.

Step 1 — Train Bangkok → Surat Thani

  • Departure: Hua Lamphong (Bangkok central station) or new Krung Thep Aphiwat station
  • Trains: 6 trains/day, including 2 night trains (departures around 6:30pm and 10pm)
  • Class: 2nd class AC sleeper recommended — 1,000-1,600 THB depending on train
  • Duration: 10-12h
  • Booking: on 12Go.asia or State Railway of Thailand (early for sleepers)

Step 2 — Bus Surat Thani → Krabi (or Phuket)

  • Duration: 3-4h to Krabi, 4-5h to Phuket
  • Fare: 250-400 THB
  • Train+bus+ferry combo: combo tickets exist at 1,500-1,800 THB covering everything

Step 3 — Ferry to Phi Phi

  • See options 1 or 2 above

Total

  • Duration: 16-20h
  • Fare: 1,500-2,500 THB all in
  • Saving: 1 hotel night (sleep on train)
  • For whom: flexible travelers wanting to see the country

Option 5: Night bus + ferry

The cheapest, longest, least comfortable option.

  • Departure: Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai), Bangkok
  • VIP bus: 24 seats, AC, departure 6:30-7:30pm, arrival Krabi 6-8am next day
  • Fare: 700-1,100 THB
  • Then: pier taxi + ferry (see option 1)
  • Total: 14-18h, 1,200-2,000 THB

Option 6: Door-to-door private transfer

For families, groups, travelers wanting zero stress.

  • Flight Bangkok → Krabi/Phuket + AC private van + chartered speedboat or pre-booked ferry
  • Fare: 8,000-15,000 THB total depending on party size and tier
  • Pros: no luggage handling, uniformed driver, English/French speaking, water and towels onboard
  • Booking: this is what we organize on WhatsApp request

Pitfalls to avoid

  1. Buying ferry tickets at the airport directly: 1,500-2,000 THB for what costs 450 at the pier. Unless you go combo.
  2. Believing there is a night ferry: there is not. Last ferry around 14:30-15:00. If you arrive after, sleep on the coast and leave next morning.
  3. Underestimating airport→pier in Phuket: 1h without traffic, 1h30 in high season.
  4. Taking the speedboat with motion sickness: vibrations + wave shocks = guaranteed nausea. Prefer classic ferry.
  5. Last-minute flight booking in high season: prices double in the last 2 weeks. Always book 1-2 months ahead for December-February.
