Read

For certified divers, the best sites around Phi Phi are Bida Nok and Bida Nai (leopard sharks, turtles, coral walls), Anemone Reef and Shark Point (Hin Musang), and the King Cruiser wreck between Phuket and Phi Phi. Further south, on an advanced day trip, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang bring manta rays and whale sharks (mostly February-May). Best season: November to April for visibility. Book a fun-diving trip for certified divers; beginners start with a discovery dive or the Open Water.

The short answer

Koh Phi Phi is an excellent dive base for certified divers. The flagship sites:

  • Bida Nok & Bida Nai — the local stars: leopard sharks, turtles, coral walls and small caves.
  • Shark Point (Hin Musang) & Anemone Reef — pinnacles blanketed in anemones, rich life.
  • King Cruiser wreck — a ferry that sank in 1997 between Phuket and Phi Phi, now an artificial reef.
  • Hin Daeng & Hin Muang (further south) — manta rays and whale sharks, mostly February-May. Advanced sites (depth, current, open sea).

Best season: November to April for visibility.

The marine life, honestly

Leopard sharks (harmless, resting on the sand) and turtles are regular at the Bidas. Manta rays and whale sharks are possible but never guaranteed — they're wild animals, more likely at Hin Daeng/Muang late in the dry season. Be wary of any promise: nobody controls the wildlife.

Organising your dives

For certified divers, book a certified fun-diving outing: we match sites to your level and recent dive count. Respect the diving/flying interval: no diving right before a flight (see also safety at Phi Phi).

Everything you want to know

Bida Nok and Bida Nai (leopard sharks, turtles, coral walls and caves) are the local stars. Add Shark Point / Hin Musang and Anemone Reef (pinnacles covered in anemones), and the King Cruiser wreck (a ferry that sank in 1997) between Phuket and Phi Phi. These suit certified divers; some, deeper or with current, are best with experience.
