The 3 sites not to be missed
If you only have half a day in Bangkok for culture, it's these three — and nothing else. They are glued, you do them in one pass.
- Wat Pho: Reclining Buddha 46 m, precious details at the feet (mother-of-pearl medallions), oldest temple.
- Grand Palais: royal Siamese architecture from the 18th to the 20th. Essential for understanding the Thai monarchy.
- Wat Phra Kaew: the Emerald Buddha. Sacred for the Thais, less spectacular than the other sites but unique.
Our advice
- Arrive 15 minutes early at the River City meeting point — the metro and the river are crowded during rush hours.
- No photos in royal buildings (prohibited).
- Bring shoes that are easy to remove (bare feet required everywhere).
Tip: after the tour, cross the river to visit Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn, 100 THB entry) — not on the tour but 10 minutes away and photogenic at sunset.
