Why Phang Nga Bay
The scenery is the reason to go: hundreds of limestone karsts rising from calm water, the needle-rock of James Bond Island and Koh Panyee, a fishing village built entirely on stilts. The canoe ride through the sea caves is the highlight of the day, silent and timeless.
How the day works
- 8:00 am Pickup from your Ao Nang hotel, transfer to the pier and briefing.
- 9:00 am Speedboat departure towards Phang Nga Bay, cruising between the bay's limestone karsts.
- Morning Sea caves by canoe: a guide paddles you through tunnels and hidden lagoons (hongs). All you have to do is look up.
- Midday James Bond Island (Koh Tapu) and its famous needle-rock, then a buffet lunch at the Koh Panyee floating village.
- Afternoon Swimming and snorkelling, with free time depending on conditions.
- 6:00 pm Back to the pier, then transfer to your hotel.

Who it suits
The tour is rated easy and suits families, couples, groups and solo travellers. Choose it if you want grand scenery more than snorkelling: the water in the bay is greener than turquoise, but the rock formations are remarkable. No paddling skills are needed, since the guide does the work in the canoe. It is a full day, so it suits travellers with at least one free day in Krabi.
Our tip
Because the park fee is included, this is one of the rare trips where you pay nothing extra on site for the park, handy when you are travelling without much cash.
Good to know
- A long day: about 10 hours, from 8:00 am pickup to around 6:00 pm back in Ao Nang.
- Pickup: included from Ao Nang hotels. From Krabi Town, Klong Muang, Tub Kaek or Nong Thalay, add 500 THB per person per way.
- What to bring: swimwear under your clothes, a towel, a dry bag for your phone during the canoe ride, a hat, sunglasses and plenty of water. Reef-safe sunscreen is required in Thai marine parks.
- Seasickness: if you are prone to it, take a tablet about 30 minutes before departure and avoid heading out on an empty stomach.
