Why Hong at sunset
Koh Hong is stunning by day, and at the end of the day it changes mood. The lagoon empties of the big day-tour crowds, golden light sets the cliffs ablaze, then a beach barbecue and a swim among glowing plankton close the day.
How the day works
- 1:30 pm Pickup from your Ao Nang hotel, transfer to the pier and boarding, by longtail or speedboat depending on your option.
- 2:30 pm Koh Hong: you enter the enclosed emerald lagoon to swim and snorkel.
- 4:00 pm Koh Pakbia and Koh Lao Lading: snorkelling on the reefs and time on the white-sand beaches.
- 5:30 pm Barbecue and light dinner on the beach, facing the setting sun.
- 7:00 pm Night swim among bioluminescent plankton, conditions permitting.
- 8:00 pm Back to the pier, then transfer to your hotel.
Mask, snorkel and life jacket are provided at each swim stop, and an English-speaking guide is with you all afternoon.

Who it suits
The tour is rated easy and suits families, couples, groups and solo travellers. It is a good fit if you would rather not start at dawn, if you want a sunset dinner on the beach as part of the trip, or if you are curious about bioluminescent plankton. It also works well after a morning on land.
Our tip
Pick this tour if you want a half-day that ends on a high: fewer people than in the morning, with the sunset and the plankton as a bonus. Pair it with a nature morning, such as Emerald Pool, for a full day.
Good to know
- Pickup: 1:30 pm from Ao Nang hotels, included. From Krabi Town, Klong Muang, Tub Kaek or Nong Thalay, add 500 THB per person per way.
- Park fee: 300 THB per adult and 150 THB per child, paid on site.
- Plankton: bring a head-torch or use your phone light to move around in the dark; the plankton itself shows best in complete darkness.
- What to bring: swimwear under your clothes, a towel, a dry bag for your phone and a change of clothes for the ride back after the night swim. Reef-safe sunscreen is required in Thai marine parks.

Prone to seasickness?
Take a tablet ~30 min before departure, sit mid-boat, keep your eyes on the horizon and avoid heading out on an empty stomach.
Beat the crowds
Iconic spots like Maya Bay are far calmer early in the day. Our morning departures get you there before the midday ferry rush.
