About Koh Kood

Off the coast of Trat province, south of Koh Chang and not far from the Cambodian border, Koh Kood is one of Thailand's most unspoiled islands. There are no high-rises or noisy nightlife here: just thick jungle, rivers flowing into the sea, waterfalls like Khlong Chao, and long white sand beaches lined with coconut palms, such as Ao Tapao, Klong Chao and Ao Phrao. On the east coast, stilted fishing villages recall life before tourism arrived. Underwater, the island's own reefs and those of Koh Rang Marine Park, a short boat ride away, offer clear water and healthy coral. Koh Kood is a destination for slowing down: we offer snorkelling, diving and freediving here, with hotel pick-up included.

When to Visit Koh Kood

The best time to visit Koh Kood is from November to April: calm seas, clear skies, clear water and all trips running, including to Koh Rang Marine Park. October and May are transitional months, often pleasant too. From May to October, the monsoon brings rain, with the heart of the season from June to September: frequent showers, waves and sometimes reduced boat connections. Sea trips still run depending on the weather though, on the island's east side or at Koh Rang, and this is when the jungle and waterfalls are at their most spectacular. It's warm all year round, and the island, already very quiet, is even more so in low season: a lovely time for travellers seeking peace and quiet, as long as you stay flexible with your dates.

How to Get to Koh Kood

Koh Kood takes a bit of effort to reach, which is also part of what keeps it so unspoiled. From Bangkok, you first head to Trat on the east coast: by plane in around 50 minutes, by bus from the Mo Chit or Ekkamai bus terminals in 5 to 6 hours, or by car in 4 to 6 hours. From Trat, transfers run to Laem Sok pier, from where boats reach Koh Kood in around 1 to 1.5 hours, with hotel transfers on arrival. Boats also connect Koh Kood to Koh Chang and Koh Mak, handy for combining several islands in the archipelago. From Pattaya, allow a few hours by road to Trat first. There's no public transport on the island itself: get around by scooter, bike or songthaew, and our boat trips include hotel pick-up.

Where to Stay in Koh Kood

Accommodation on Koh Kood is mostly found on the west coast, facing the sunset. Klong Chao is the most convenient area, with its river, restaurants and the nearby waterfall. Ao Tapao and Ao Phrao offer long, quieter white sand beaches, while Bang Bao and Klong Hin suit those looking for small bays and peaceful resorts. On the east coast, the fishing villages of Ao Salad and Ao Yai offer a more authentic stay, away from the main beaches. Options range from simple bungalows to upscale resorts, but distances are long and roads hilly: choose your area based on what you're after, and plan for a scooter or transfers. Our boat trips pick up travellers from their hotel on the island.
