Why this half-day

It's the most magical outing of the day on a mini budget. You set off in early afternoon, enjoy the snorkeling sites once the morning tours have left, and string together two rare moments: sunset out at sea, then a swim in the bioluminescent plankton after dark.

What you'll experience

The long-tail takes you away from the noise for the sunset, engine off, facing the horizon. Once night falls, your guide finds a sheltered spot where the water glows at the slightest movement: a natural effect produced by the plankton, strongest on moonless nights.

Good to know

The intensity of the plankton depends on the moon and the weather — it's a natural phenomenon, never 100% guaranteed, but your guide stacks the odds in your favour. Bring something warm for the trip back; it cools down once the sun has set.

Before you go

Good to know

  • Prone to seasickness?

Take a tablet ~30 min before departure, sit mid-boat, keep your eyes on the horizon and avoid heading out on an empty stomach.

  • Beat the crowds

Iconic spots like Maya Bay are far calmer early in the day. Our morning departures get you there before the midday ferry rush.

  • National park fees

Some sites sit inside a national park, so an entrance fee may apply. Check the “Not included” list above so there are no surprises.

  • Sun & reef care

The tropical sun is strong — bring a hat, sunglasses and plenty of water. Reef-safe sunscreen is required in Thai marine parks.

  • What to pack

Swimwear under your clothes, a towel, a dry bag for your phone, and a change of clothes for the trip back.

Frequently asked

It's present year-round but far more visible on a dark, moonless night. Your guide picks the best spot based on the day's moon phase.
